| The stucco techniques appeared
in Antiquity. The Greek and Roman civilizations used them extensively.
Some very beautiful ornamentation was made in stucco as it
spread through the Middle East and into India (4th century
BC). The stucco was forgotten for centuries and then, reappeared
in Italy around the 13th Century. |
|
| Very quickly, architects
and sculptors redeveloped the stucco technique and it is once
again considered the fundamental element in decoration. The
stucco, always lime or plaster-based, reached its climax in
the 18th century, the Baroque period. |
