Stuccos with plaster or with plaster and lime
Plaster has always been associated with the stucco technique. The marble stucco is the only technique which imitates perfectly the veritable marble. Some dashing marquetries of stucco (sgagliola) have been created on very large mural surfaces and on objects (tabletops, baluster, moulding…). This technique has been abandoned in the 195O’s because some more fast and simple products appeared which created a better result.
But, very few ready-made products have been created to imitate the “stone” stucco. The mix of plaster and lime dates back to the Antiquity. Man has very quickly understood their complementarities. If you add some mineral materials like sand, marble powder or pouzzolan, the result is much more beautiful. Stuccos with plaster and lime have been forgotten in the 20th century because of the cement, whereas they have very high technical quality.
