Stucco
with lime
Stucco with lime is the eldest one and more particularly, the
stucco Marmorino. You can find it yet on some columns in Pompei
(1st century BC). The main purpose of this sumptuous coating
was to imitate the marble. Some “marblings” have
sometimes been painted in the “a fresco” stucco
in order to imitate a little more the veritable marble. The
marmorino technique consists on creating decorative motives
with a spoon as tool. |

The other Italian stuccos
appeared in the 16th century. The stucco from Mantoue, called
stucco Montovano, stucco made with a knife tool, is weirdly
very difficult to find…in Mantoue! This technique is
the only one not to use mineral materials.
The stucco “grasselo” is a real technique which
comes from the Roman craftsmen, that is why it is called the
Roman Stucco. The stucco “lustro” is very smooth
and very coloured. Its technique and the technique of Moroccan
Tadelakt are a little similar. |
